When we’re designing your home, we try to source the most sustainable, natural pieces, from floor to ceiling and everything in between. Seeking out those perfect additions, that are as ethical as they are beautiful. We’re not perfect, but we strongly believe that if we all do our best to be more sustainable and ethical we can have a greater impact. Our ethos centres around creating unique, sustainably luxurious spaces that encompass the following design principles…
We believe minimalism can be warm and soft. A simple, uncluttered space relaxes the sight and mind and reduces stress. By filling our homes with fewer but better pieces, we also reduce toxins and dust whilst creating a calm space. If we buy less but better, not only do we avoid cluttered homes, but we throw away less too.
Choose only those pieces you love, those that are well-made and will stand the test of time, and, those that mean something to you. We avoid a home being sterile and lacking in character, by designing spaces using warm tones, layering different materials, and soft luxurious textures that all work harmoniously together. Selectively and consciously sourcing a mix of beautiful vintage pieces combined with good quality design. We love to source from independent artists and craftsmen, seeking out more niche and handmade pieces to create a unique, layered, and interesting home.
We believe sustainability can be luxurious. Sustainable products share many of the same qualities as luxury goods; extraordinary creativity and design, made from exceptional and often natural materials, with good quality, and they place an importance on durability in the concept of fewer but better. Luxury goods have implicit sustainability built-in - they don’t go out of fashion and are life-long products. When designing homes, we love to mix in beautiful, good-quality vintage pieces made from natural materials so that not every purchase is new. Layering in handmade elements and design-led pieces helps to create a soulful space that feels like your home.
We believe that natural materials are good for our health, last a lifetime and actively feed our earth upon disposal. Avoiding materials made with chemicals that are detrimental to our well-being and damaging to the planet too.
Eco-Friendly, Non-Toxic Paint
We use eco-friendly, non-toxic paints from Farrow & Ball, Little Greene, Atelier Ellis, and Bauwerk each reducing our impact on the planet without any compromise on quality. Bauwerk paints are a beautiful limewash paint, they are non-VOC, they are completely natural - sourcing only natural pigments and made using a base of clay, earth and minerals - making them ideal for interiors.
Sustainable, Natural Fabrics
We work primarily with natural linen fabrics from De Le Cuona , Rose Uniacke and Ada & Ina, from curtains to cushions blinds to bedding. Linen is one of the most biodegradable fabrics we can use. It is strong, naturally moth resistant, and made from flax plant fibres, so when untreated (i.e. not dyed) it is fully biodegradable. Its natural colours include ivory, ecru, tan, and grey. It absorbs moisture without holding bacteria, it becomes softer and more pliable the more it is washed, making it super safe and ideal for inside our homes.
Natural & Recycled Materials
We prefer to avoid plastics, laminates and other materials that involve the use of chemicals and man-made materials that can’t be recycled. Sourcing reclaimed materials, solid wood and stone rather than using laminate and, wherever possible, locally sourced materials that are ethically and sustainably produced. Carpets and rugs can be natural too, from jute and sisal to natural wool all help to make our homes cleaner and calmer. We consider every element that goes into making your home more sustainable, from natural mattresses to the cleaning products used, making your home as healthy and sustainable as possible.
